The Office on the Aging selects, funds, manages and oversees contracts for direct service programs provided by 40-50 community-based organizations and two public agencies to serve persons 60 years of age and older and adults with disabilities 18 years of age and older. The services these agencies provide are targeted to younger adults with disabilities as well as frail seniors, low-income seniors, and cultural/racial/ethnic minority groups of elders, including elderly lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender persons. These agencies provide a wide range of programs and services, including those addressing nutrition, transportation and bilingual/bicultural needs, to help keep clients healthy and living independently in the community.
