San Francisco offers very low-income homeless single adults and families a variety of supportive housing options that include on-site case managers and supportive services to help people stabilize and stay housed for the long term.

Permanent SRO Housing for Adults Without Children

San Francisco offers permanent supportive housing units in single-room occupancy hotels to very low-income single adults and adult couples without children. These hotels have been renovated by their owners and are managed by nonprofit agencies that provide case management and supportive services on site. Ask about the referral process from a social worker or case manager at a city shelter or other program serving homeless adults.

Housing for Single Adults and Families with Disabilities

HSA provides federally funded rental subsidies for homeless persons with disabilities. It provides permanent housing and on-site services for both individuals and families at 25 sites throughout San Francisco. To be eligible, applicants must be homeless and have a diagnosed disability related to mental health, substance abuse and/or HIV/AIDS. Your social worker can provide you with a referral. For general questions, call (415) 558-1902.

Permanent Supportive Housing for Families

Housing and Homeless Programs partners with several affordable housing developers throughout San Francisco to provide supportive services to formerly homeless and low income families residing in affordable housing developments. Additionally, Housing and Homeless Programs refers a limited number of eligible families to affordable housing developments for housing placement.
