Using CalFresh Benefits

Learn how and where to use your CalFresh benefits to buy food and groceries.

How to use CalFresh

In San Francisco, CalFresh benefits are distributed via the Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) debit cards, also known as the Golden State Advantage card. The EBT card is used like any other debit card with a four-digit PIN, and it offers you privacy when making purchases. To find out where you can use your EBT card, read below.

To report a lost card, call CalFresh customer service immediately at (415) 558-4700.

To check your EBT card balance, you can download the free Fresh EBT app to view your balance and purchase history on your smartphone.
You can also call 1-877-328-9677.

Where to use CalFresh EBT cards

Markets and grocery stores: EBT cards can be used to purchase food at most San Francisco grocery stores and farmers' markets. In addition, elderly, disabled or homeless CalFresh customers may purchase meals at participating San Francisco restaurants. To see a list of participating restaurants, click here.

ATMs: See the list of ATMs that do and don't charge surplus fees for accessing cash using your EBT card.

Farmers' Markets Locations

Your EBT card can be used at the following farmers' markets, offering an opportunity to buy affordable and healthful food and stretch your food budget. The Market Match program doubles CalFresh benefits at many farmers’ markets.
