Benefits for Immigrants

If you are an immigrant who does not qualify for government disaster relief, HSA urges you to use the medical care, food, and cash benefits listed below. They are free and NOT considered by the public charge test to obtain a green card or any other federal process to attain U.S. citizenship. 

Food benefits for kids: 
Pandemic EBT (P-EBT) is a federal assistance program that helps make up for free or reduced-price meals children may have missed because of COVID. View our P-EBT page

Health care: 
Medi-Cal offers COVID-19 care free of charge for uninsured individuals, including immigrants.

Groceries and Meals

CalFresh food assistance
CalFresh is a federally funded benefit program for people with limited income. A monthly CalFresh benefit is added to your EBT card, which works like a debit card when you buy food at most grocery stores. You can apply for CalFresh even if your change in circumstances is temporary. Learn more and apply.

Additional CalFresh benefits during COVID-19

  • EBT Online: Use your EBT card to order groceries online from AmazonWalmart also offers EBT Online and grocery pick up at a store location near San Francisco. Learn more (English | Spanish) and check back for additional stores offering EBT Online.  You can also order your groceries for store pickup at several Safeways in the City. Check the list regularly for updates (English Spanish).
  • CalFresh emergency benefit extended: This allotment is automatically added to your EBT card to increase your monthly benefit to the maximum allowable amount. You'll get  this month's allotment around the first week of next month.

Benefits for children

  • Pandemic-EBT is a state-funded food benefit for children that is being offered again this year.
  • Meals for Kids is a federal resource to help you find meals for your children while schools are closed due to COVID-19 and the summer months.

The City's webpage Get Food Resources and 3-1-1 helpline provide food options and a map for free and paid groceries, prepared meals, food delivery, and food banks nearest you.

Older Adults and People with Disabilities

San Francisco’s Department of Disability and Aging Services (DAS) and our community partners collaborate to help older adults and people with disabilities have access to food, home care, social engagement, and other essential support in response to COVID-19. 

We serve all San Francisco's older adults and adults with disabilities, regardless of income or whether they receive public benefits.
