Emergency Food Benefit for Transitional Age Youth (TAY)

The Human Services Agency (HSA) sent a gift card worth at least $200 to about 4,000 transitional age youth (TAY) for groceries and food. This one-time assistance was provided by the Give2SF COVID-19 Response and Recovery Fund, which supports San Franciscans and small businesses facing financial hardships due to the pandemic. If you qualified for the gift card, you should have received online notification in early July 2020 and the card by mail in late July 2020.

If you never received your card or lost your card, you can request a replacement from U.S. Bank by following these instructions: English Español |  中文.

Who qualifies and how you get the card

The gift card is a pre-paid debit card that will be mailed directly to young adults who are Medi-Cal clients and:

  • Are 18-24 years of age
  • Live in a single-person household
  • Do NOT receive CalFresh or other public food assistance

Important next step to avoid delays

Follow the instructions in your notification letter and the Frequently Asked Questions (EnglishEspañol | 中文) to ensure your address is current in the Medi-Cal system. Also see the FAQ for details about receiving, activating, and using the gift card.
