HSA Coronavirus Updates Requirements Waived for Benefits and Emergency Food Assistance

Good news for HSA benefit recipients: You do not need to renew your benefits for the next few months. You will keep receiving your current benefits without interruption during this time. See below for details on each program.

CalFresh and  CalWORKs

Your current benefits will continue without interruption through June 2020.

Changes to reporting and work requirements

  • Status reports (SAR 7): You do not need to submit a status report between March and May 2020. You will keep receiving benefits without interruption during this period. If you recently submitted a status report that would have resulted in an increase to your benefits, call CalFresh at (415) 558-4700 or CalWORKs at (415) 557-5100. Note: Status reports scheduled for June 2020 or later must be submitted as usual.
  • Annual recertification: Deadlines previously scheduled for March, April and May 2020 have been extended six months. For example, those due in April are now due in October 2020. We will confirm your next recertification date by mail. During this period, you will receive your benefits without interruption.
  • Work requirements: CalWORKs and CalFresh ABAWD (Able-Bodied Adults Without Dependents) work requirements have been waived for until further notice. During this period, you will continue to receive your benefits without participating in work activities.

Emergency food assistance

  • All CalFresh recipients automatically get the maximum allowable benefits: You do not need to report a change in circumstances to receive this increase for March, April, and May. If you already get the maximum allowable amount, your benefits will not change. The March increase was added to your EBT card on April 12, 2020 and April's increase was added on May 10. May's increase will be added on June 14. Learn more
  • Use EBT cards online: You can use your EBT card to buy groceries online from Amazon. If you are sheltering outside of San Francisco, you may also order online from Walmart. • Pandemic-EBT benefits for students: Children who qualify for free or reduced-price school meals can receive food assistance on Pandemic EBT cards while their schools are closed.
