The On-Call Janitor is a key member of the Operations team and supports the cleanliness, safety, and overall condition of the building on an as-needed basis. This position is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and orderly environment throughout the facility, including common areas, bathrooms, kitchens, offices, meeting spaces, and exterior areas. The role may also assist with routine inspections, basic repairs, and preventative maintenance tasks when required.
DUTIES:
● Respond to urgent or unplanned facility needs on an as-needed basis, including cleaning, sanitation, and basic maintenance tasks.
● Clean and sanitize offices, common areas, bathrooms, kitchens, hallways, stairwells, and windows as requested.
● Empty trash receptacles and ensure proper disposal procedures when called in.
● Restock essential household supplies (such as paper towels, toilet paper, and hand soap) when onsite.
● Monitor inventory of cleaning products and supplies during shifts and communicate needs to the supervisor.
● Report facility repairs, safety concerns, or maintenance issues promptly.
● Maintain vigilance for pests and alert the supervisor if pest control intervention is needed.
● Contribute to a positive, respectful, and team-oriented workplace that reflects organisation values, policies, and mission.
● Attend required trainings or meetings as scheduled by the Director of Operations.
● Perform other emergency or facility-related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
● 2+ more years in janitorial services.
● 1+ years in maintenance services.
● Capable of communicating well in English; ability to speak Spanish a plus.
● Ability to uphold all organization protocols and procedures.
● Must be able to bend, stoop, and lift items up to 50 pounds, unassisted, on a regular basis.
● Must be able to work independently with minimum supervision.
● Must have previous experience in maintenance.
● Ability to work effectively and respectfully with a diverse population.
● Ability to communicate effectively and respectfully with our community members: volunteers, the families served, fellow staff members, business representatives, and donors.
● Ability to maintain composure during stressful situations.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: (not required)
● Able to speak Spanish.
JOB SCHEDULE:
Tuesday, Thursday, and every other Sunday 2:00pm to 10:00pm. Occasional extra shifts depending on availability.
