Mayor Lurie Launches Outreach Campaign to Help San Franciscans Keep Critical Healthcare, Food Assistance

Nuevo lanzamiento

SAN FRANCISCO – Mayor Daniel Lurie today launched a new public outreach campaign to provide San Franciscans with critical tools for retaining healthcare and food assistance following federal cuts. Produced by the San Francisco Human Services Agency (SFHSA), the  public service announcements  include information for households affected by the H.R. 1 cuts to Medi-Cal and CalFresh benefits, notifying them about the changes and sharing information about how to maintain benefits. The ads will run beginning today on broadcast and in print, in English, Chinese, and Spanish.

The outreach campaign builds on Mayor Lurie’s work to help San Francisco families cover the cost of basic needs like food, childcare, and housing. On the heels of Washington’s H.R. 1 cuts, Mayor Lurie made  importantes inversiones para fortalecer la red de seguridad social de la ciudad  en la cotización de este año, incluyendo  34 millones de dólares para ayudar a los habitantes de Santo Francisco a mantener matriculados  in CalFresh and Medi-Cal benefits. Earlier this summer, he launched the  CalFresh Community Works Program  to help identify opportunities for residents to meet new work requirements and retain food assistance. When the federal government shutdown jeopardized SNAP benefits nationwide, Mayor Lurie brought together public and philanthropic partners to  Asistencia alimentaria para relleno de 112000 Santo Francisco  in just a week. In July, Mayor Lurie built on that work, introducing legislation to  centralize the city’s efforts to tackle food insecurity . Under his  Agenda de Oportunidades Familiares , San Francisco is the first major city in the U.S. where every family with kids under five has access to childcare, and the city is building more housing through the  Plan de zonificación familiar  y una  Inversión transformadora en vivienda asequible  that will be on the ballot this fall.

“Our administration is working every day to make sure families can put down roots in San Francisco, and that work starts with making sure they can afford the essentials,” said Mayor Lurie. “As Washington cuts assistance that San Franciscans rely on, our city is stepping up for our families—strengthening the safety net and bringing down costs. With this campaign, we are sending a message to our community that San Francisco has their back, and we are giving them the tools to thrive in the city we all love.”

“While we cannot control the changes to public benefits that have been thrust upon us by the federal government, we can control how to respond to them—including ensuring that every eligible San Franciscan receives timely and actionable information on how to maintain their benefits,” said SFHSA Executive Director Trent Rhorer. “This public outreach campaign is just one piece of that broader effort.”

La television and radio ads , produced by SFHSA in partnership with SFGovTV, begin airing today across English, Chinese, and Spanish networks. The videos will also be shared by city departments and community organizations across social media channels and on other platforms to help reach impacted residents. The campaign also includes  print ads  running in local publications to reach communities who access information in different ways.

The campaign builds on more than a year of outreach by SFHSA—including  online updates , outreach materials , and in-person engagement—to provide the latest information on changes to public benefits and how the city is supporting residents. The  changes in H.R. 1  include new work requirements for CalFresh that began on June 1, 2026, and new work requirements for Medi-Cal that will begin on January 1, 2027.
