LGBT Senior Isolation Prevention

This program is designed to serve LGBT older adults who are isolated or lonely, and who may be reluctant to seek traditional health and social services due to a history of discrimination and marginalization.

The DAAS LGBT Care Senior Isolation Prevention program helps lesbian, gay, bisexual, and/or transgender (LGBT) older adults and people with disabilities get connected to useful services and supports. In particular, the program is intended to serve those who are isolated or lonely and who may be reluctant to seek traditional health and social services due to a history of discrimination and marginalization.

Clients served by this program are connected to Care Navigators who conduct assessments and coordinate care, a network of Peer Support volunteers, and supportive programming, including individual emotional and behavioral support, peer support groups, and outreach. This program was created in response to a finding from the LGBT Aging Policy Task Force that there were limited support services for LGBT older adults, and that specialized services were needed to address the emotional, practical, and behavioral health needs of the older LGBT population.
