Advancing Racial Equity at SFHSA

SFHSA’s Office of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Belonging, and Accessibility (DEIBA) helps us meet the City's goals for addressing structural and institutional racism in the services we deliver.

DEIBA also promotes the creation of an equitable workplace. We do this by building a culture of belonging and inclusion for our employees while also supporting policies that minimize disparities in the workplace.

Our commitment to racial equity

We collaborate at a citywide and nationwide level to reach our racial equity goals. In 2018, we joined the Government Alliance on Race and Equity (GARE), a national network of government organizations working together to achieve racial equity. That led to an 18-month review of equity conditions at SFHSA and recommendations to improve those conditions for all employees.

In 2020, we formed DEIBA to help reach our racial equity goals by:

  • Providing opportunities for staff to engage in racial equity work
  • Proposing changes to SFHSA’s equity policy and procedures
  • Collaborating with City and community partners on racial equity priorities
  • Aligning our work with the City’s Office of Racial Equity
