Job Description

This employer is the largest independent internet provider in San Francisco. Founded in 1998, they bring affordable, hassle-free, month-to-month internet service to the residents and businesses of San Francisco. We operate a hybrid network of fiber optic and high-capacity wireless links servicing over 20,000 locations with over 100 new locations coming online every week. We are looking for a talented wireless technician to join our team. Field Technician installs, maintains, and troubleshoots internet connections for residential and business customers. This involves working on rooftops, installing wireless equipment, and running communications wiring. They also handle troubleshooting and repairs of network installations, document building details and client requests, and may be required to respond to on-call repairs. Technicians are expected to interface with clients, install equipment on rooftops and run communications wiring. The ideal candidate will have a background in telecommunication, construction-like trades, computer networking or similar field, be willing and able to perform physical work, and able to work independently and in a team.

DUTIES:

  • Installation: Installing wireless networking equipment on rooftops, communications wiring, and related components.
  • Maintenance: Ensuring the proper functioning of installed equipment and network connections.
  • Troubleshooting: Troubleshooting and repairing wireless network installations, diagnosing and resolving issues with internet connectivity for both residential and commercial clients.
  • Documentation: Writing detailed reports about building specifics, client requests, and installation details.
  • On-call Response: Providing rapid response for repair work, including evenings and weekends.
  • Climbing and Lifting: Setting up and climbing ladders safely, working at heights (rooftops) and carrying equipment (concrete blocks and masts).
  • Customer Interaction: Interacting with customers to provide support and address concerns.
  • Driving company vehicles safely, lawfully and efficiently. 
  • Must be available for occasional on-call rapid response repair work evenings and/or weekends

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must have valid Class C Driver’s License and clean DMV printout.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Ability to work in various locations throughout San Francisco, including outdoors throughout the year.
  • Strong customer service principles and practices, problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Proper professional etiquette including the ability to speak and write English clearly, accurately and professionally.
  • Ability to climb ladders and work on rooftops, and conduct construction site safety.
  • Must be able to carry a minimum of 50 pounds.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience with network installation and maintenance.
  • Proficiency in troubleshooting network connectivity issues.
  • Knowledge of both fiber-optic and wireless technologies.
  • Experience with electricity, technology, and construction is a plus.
  • Linux networking skills preferred.
  • COVID vaccination highly encouraged.

SCHEDULE:

Monday - Friday 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM, possible evenings and weekends.
