Job Description
A leading San Francisco business‑to‑business digital printing and marketing services provider is seeking a self‑motivated, energetic, outgoing, and friendly Production Manager.
The employer is locally owned and operated, supported by the resources of a global network. The company produces a wide range of marketing solutions, including traditional print products (direct mail, brochures, posters), signage, and brand‑strategy materials.
This position offers a 6‑month paid, on‑the‑job training program designed to provide a full understanding of the company’s production operations. The selected candidate will begin by shadowing the Production team, learning each step of the workflow from prepress to finishing. By the end of the training period, the candidate should be able to independently manage job scheduling, quality control, team coordination, equipment oversight, cost efficiency, and customer/sales communication.
After 6 months of on-the-job training, candidate should be able to perform the tasks below:
DUTIES:
Job scheduling & workflow control
· Prioritize jobs based on deadlines (rush vs. standard)
· Allocate machines and staff efficiently
· Prevent bottlenecks (e.g., finishing becoming the choke point)
Production quality control
· Ensure color accuracy, alignment, and finishing quality
· Catch errors before jobs go out
· Maintain consistency for repeat clients (critical for law firms & corporate accounts)
Team management
· Manage press operators, bindery staff, and prepress technicians
· Train staff on equipment and processes
· Handle shift coverage and productivity
Equipment & maintenance
· Keep presses running (downtime = lost revenue)
· Coordinate service/repairs
· Optimize machine usage (which jobs go on which press)
Cost control & efficiency
· Minimize waste (paper, ink, time)
· Track job costing vs. estimates
· Improve throughput (more jobs per day without sacrificing quality)
Customer & sales coordination
· Work closely with sales reps and CSRs
· Advise on:
o Turnaround times
o Feasibility of rush jobs
o Best production method (digital vs offset vs large format)
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• High school graduate
• Prior production experience in a commercial print shop.
• 2-3 years in a leadership role
• Excellent communication skills and strong interpersonal skills with a warm, engaging personality.
• Computer Skills: Outlook and MS Excel
Work Schedule: Monday- Friday 8am-5pm
