Free Tax Help File Your Taxes for Free

2020 tax filing information

The 2020 tax season ended on May 17, 2021.  However, some tax sites remain open for in-person and/or drop-off service.

SFHSA's nonprofit partners make it easy to safely and securely file your taxes for free using online tools or in-person services. If you earn less than $66,000, free tax services save you an average of $300 on tax preparation and help you claim as much as:

  • $1,400 federal stimulus payment if you qualify but didn't receive it yet
  • $9,600 from federal and state Earned Income Tax Credits (EITCs), plus a $600 stimulus payment for California EITC recipients
  • $2,400 from state and federal child tax credits

NOTE: Tax credits do not count as income and they do not affect your eligibility for benefits like CalWORKs, CalFresh, or disability.
