Applying for CalWORKs

If you are interested in applying for CalWORKs, you may start your application process:

What to Expect

Our staff are available to help you through every step of the application process. After you've inquired about the program in person, via phone, or online, you will meet with a member of our team to complete the application at one of our Service Centers. Below is some general information of what families can expect.

  • Families requesting assistance will be asked to complete the application forms
  • Families will then be interviewed by an Eligibility Worker who will verify your information to determine if you qualify. You may be asked to provide:
    • Proof of income and property
    • Information regarding citizenship status and residence. You do not need to be a U.S. Citizen to apply. Find answers to frequently asked questions on our Public Benefits for Immigrants page.
    • Age
    • Social Security Number
    • Information regarding work school status

If a family has extremely limited or no cash and needs housing, food, utilities, clothing, or medical care, they may be eligible to receive immediate short-term help. If your family is in need of urgent assistance, let us know right away.

If you have a disability and need help to apply, we may be able to arrange for a home visit or other assistance specific to your needs. Call our Service Center to request special assistance. If you are already receiving benefits and would like to request special assistance, please contact your Eligibility Worker or Employment Specialist.
