HSA Executive Director Denounces Trump Administration’s Final Public Charge Rule and Latest Assault on Immigrant Families

Statement

“This marks another day of the Trump Administration attacking hard working immigrant families. While the new public charge rule directly impacts a small number of people in San Francisco, the associated fear and confusion are sure to catalyze a ‘chilling effect’ – causing many low-income immigrants and their families to refrain from accessing critical health and nutrition benefits that they are legally entitled to receive.”

Before taking any immediate action or turning away from essential services, we urge concerned San Franciscans to consult a City-approved community-based attorney. We have free legal resources to help people understand their rights and make the best decision for themselves and their families.

Importantly, if litigation does not prevent the rule from taking effect, the soonest this policy will become effective is in 60 days on October 15.” – Trent Rhorer, Executive Director, San Francisco Human Services Agency.
