Mayor Daniel Lurie directed the San Francisco Human Services Agency (SFHSA) to establish a new Food Security Council to advise the Mayor’s Office and City departments on food security strategy, policy, and program implementation. The Council will help the City navigate the evolving food security landscape to advance our goals of ensuring that all San Franciscans have equitable access to affordable, nutritious food that meets their unique needs.
The first meeting will take place Fall 2026. Stay tuned for more information.

Along with this new directive and Council, the Mayor signed legislation in October 2026 creating the Office of Food Security Coordination within SFHSA to centralize citywide hunger response efforts. The Office will drive collaboration across city departments and build a cohesive food support network by leveraging government, community organizations, and philanthropy.
