We are excited to share that Mayor Daniel Lurie has directed the San Francisco Human Services Agency (SFHSA) to establish a new Food Security Council to advise the Mayor’s Office and City departments on food security strategy, policy, and program implementation. The Council will help the City navigate the evolving food security landscape to advance our goals of ensuring that all San Franciscans have equitable access to affordable, nutritious food that meets their unique needs. 

Community-based organizations, including direct service providers, community coalitions, and faith-based organizations, alongside interested community members are encouraged to express interest in serving on the Food Security Council by completing this form. 

The Mayor’s Office expects to review applications and interview qualified candidates this summer in preparation for the first Food Security Council meeting in the Fall of 2026. Interested parties are encouraged to fill out the application form. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis until all seats are filled.   

Along with this new directive and Council, the Mayor has introduced legislation to create the Office of Food Security Coordination within SFHSA to centralize citywide hunger response efforts. The Office will drive collaboration across city departments and build a cohesive food support network by leveraging government, community organizations, and philanthropy.
