Statement from Executive Director Trent Rhorer on the passing of former Human Services Commissioner Rita Semel
Media Statement
We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of former Human Services Commissioner Rita Semel. Rita was a San Francisco icon who led a life guided by a deep sense of public service. She cofounded the San Francisco Interfaith Council, led the creation of the City’s still operating Interfaith Winter Shelter system and later served on the City’s Human Services Commission for more than ten years. Rita’s dedication to breaking down barriers and improving San Franciscans’ lives will live on through the people she touched. We will forever be grateful for her contributions and legacy to our City and to the Human Services Agency.
