In-Home Supportive Services (IHSS)

IHSS provides help with everyday activities, such as bathing, dressing, laundry, shopping, and cooking to older adults and persons with disabilities.

IHSS helps support older adults and persons with disabilities so they can remain safely in their homes. Those who are eligible can hire someone (a “Provider”) to help them with certain activities around their home. Social workers help determine what support services each IHSS Recipient is eligible for based on their functional abilities and needs in the home. IHSS is an alternative to out-of-home care, such as nursing homes or board-and-care facilities.
