Resources for Foster Youth and Young Adults
FCS partners with community agencies to provide services to meet the unique needs of current and former foster youth.
Alternative Family Services (AFS)
AFS provides thoughtful, informed foster care, adoption, and mental health services throughout California’s San Francisco Bay Area and Greater Sacramento region. Since 1978, AFS has been supporting vulnerable children and families in need of stability, safety and well-being in communities through foster care, adoption, and mental health services.
Foster Care Mental Health Program (a part of San Francisco’s Department of Public Health)
Foster Care Mental Health (FCMH) Program works together with Family and Children’s Services to address the mental health needs of children/youth and families in the child welfare system.
Huckleberry Youth Programs
Huckleberry Youth Programs provides a continuum of services to support at-risk youth including 24-hour crisis services, emergency shelter for high-need youth ages 11-17, counseling programs, support for trafficked youth, health care & health education, and college and career access programs.
Independent Living Skills Program
The San Francisco Independent Living Skills Program/First Place for Youth serves current and former foster youth, Kin-GAP youth, and probation-involved youth from age 16 until their 21st birthday. The program offers a full range of education, employment, permanency, and resource and referral services to help prepare youth for success in adulthood and independence.
Larkin Street Youth Services
Larkin Street provides a continuum of services to support youth ages 12-24 including emergency shelter, housing, medical care, education, and job training.
San Francisco CASA
San Francisco CASA matches youth in foster care with a consistent, caring volunteer advocate (a CASA), trained to address each child’s needs in the court and the community. CASAs help youth and young adults explore their strengths and interests, and access the resources to build upon those strengths.
San Francisco Foster Youth Fund
The San Francisco Foster Youth Fund (SFFYF) raises funds and coordinates donations of goods to provide children with resources not available through the SFHSA Department of Benefits and Family Support (BFS) to meet the special needs of foster youth and their families.
San Francisco Unified School District Foster Youth Services
Foster Youth Services (FYS) works collaboratively with youth, caregivers, schools, placing agencies, and other service providers to address the unique educational needs of foster youth.
