San Francisco Human Services Agency Opens New Service Center to Expand Access to Critical Support and Services

News Release

SAN FRANCISCO – The San Francisco Human Services Agency (SFHSA) today announced the grand opening of a new service center designed to enhance access to critical social services for individuals and families. The new state-of-the-art facility is located at 1460 Mission Street and helps community members connect with and maintain benefits through a centralized hub for multiple programs in one convenient location.

Each year, SFHSA connects one in four San Franciscans—about 225,000 people—to more than 60 essential services including food assistance, cash aid, employment services, health care support and community programs. The new facility, which client-facing SFHSA staff helped design, represents an investment in improving how services are delivered to those who need them most.

“Our administration is working every day to make San Francisco a place where all families can thrive. The Human Services Agency connects thousands of San Franciscans to critical resources—helping them put food on the table, access health care, and receive general assistance,” said Mayor Lurie. “By bringing more services together in one location, we’re making San Francisco more affordable and accessible for our residents.”

With welcoming spaces, modern technology, and expanded capacity and accessibility, the service center will help SFHSA better support San Franciscans with a wide range of needs. The new center is expected to serve more than 600 people each day. Approximately 110 staff members will work in the service center, providing support across multiple programs. The center includes service counters, self-service kiosks, interview spaces, exam rooms, and private consultation rooms, all designed to streamline the client experience and reduce wait times.

Available benefits at the service center include CalFresh (SNAP) for food assistance, Medi-Cal for health care coverage, and County Adult Assistance Programs (CAAP), which offers cash assistance to low-income adults without dependent children. The center also features an Employment Information Center, offering job search resources and connections to workforce programs.

“We are extremely proud to open this modern service center for San Franciscans,” said Trent Rhorer, executive director of SFHSA. “Due to state and federal changes to benefit eligibility that have taken effect, and with more changes coming, our primary focus remains—to help clients enroll and maintain the critical supports that so many are entitled to receive. This new space not only strengthens our ability to do this, but also offers a more comfortable experience, with lower noise levels, improved privacy, and an updated environment and furnishings that help people feel at ease while they access the services they need.”

Located on the Mission Street side of the 1455 Market building, the new service center is housed in a LEED Gold-certified building close to major transit hubs in the Civic Center area. As part of this move, SFHSA ceased operations at its 1235 Mission service center in the South of Market (SoMa) neighborhood on Friday, March 20 at 5 p.m. Individuals and families who need SFHSA assistance on Monday, March 23 are encouraged to visit other nearby service centers at 1440 Harrison or 170 Otis streets or call (855) 355-5757.

The new 1460 Mission service center will open to clients starting at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, March 24 and will operate regular business hours from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, excluding City holidays.
