Food Assistance Resources for Older Adults and People with Disabilities 

The San Francisco Department of Disability and Aging Services (DAS) coordinates services for older adults, veterans, people with disabilities, and their families to maximize safety, health, and independence. We partner with several community-based organizations to offer the free, food assistance programs below. 

    Home-delivered meals

    This program provides daily meals to people who are unable to shop for or prepare meals due to a physical or mental health condition, These meals are prepared and delivered by community-based organizations in our non-profit network.

    ​​​​​​​Meals to go

    Our Congregate Meals program usually supports communal dining at community centers across the City. Group meals have been temporarily suspended during the pandemic, but many sites have switched to takeaway meals.

    Home-delivered groceries

    This program supports people who can prepare meals at home but have difficulty transporting groceries home due to limited mobility.  Food pantry groceries are delivered each week by the San Francisco-Marin Food Bank or one of their partner organizations.

    Grocery bags for pick up

    Our partnership with the San Francisco-Marin Food Bank provides fresh produce and other ingredients to prepare nutritious meals at home. There are dozens of free food pantries across the City.

    CalFresh food assistance

    CalFresh provides low-income individuals and households with a special debit card to purchase food at grocery stores, farmers' markets, and other food outlets.
