The Department of Disability and Aging Services (DAS) and our community partners offer free food programs to older adults, veterans, and people with disabilities.

Senior Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program (SFMNP)

The Senior Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program (SFMNP) is a federally funded annual program administered nationally by the U.S. Department of Agricultures’ (USDA) Food and Nutrition Services. The program provides benefits to lower-income older adults to purchase locally grown fruits, vegetables, cut herbs, and raw honey though Authorized Farmers’ Markets.

Appointment registration for 2026 is now open. 

Individuals must meet these eligibility requirements: 

  1. Be a San Francisco resident, and
  2. Be at least 60 years of age or older, and
  3. Have a monthly income at or below 185% of the federal poverty level ($2,461 per month for household of 1; or $3,337 per month for a household of 2).
  4. Have not already received a Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program card in 2026.

Important Program rules:

  1. Distribution of SFMNP cards is BY APPOINTMENT ONLY, and benefits are only issued to individuals with an appointment. 

    Those without an appointment will be turned away.

  2. Please only book ONE APPOINTMENT per eligible individual. Duplicate appointments for the same person will be CANCELLED.
  3. Bring a valid photo ID to your appointment to verify eligibility.
  4. Do not arrive more than 15 minutes early for your appointment.
  5. Be aware that the appointment may take up to 60 minutes

Instructions for Making an Appointment:

  1. Confirm you meet the eligibility requirements before booking an appointment.
  2. On the appointment booking website, under select a service – Choose the date and pick up site for your appointment.
  3. Select the time for your appointment. Only available dates and times will show for the site you selected.
  4. Add your details – You must complete all required information. Confirm your name matches your photo ID. An email address is required.
  5. Select “Book”
  6. After you book your appointment, you will receive an email confirmation for your appointment that will include the date, time, location, and instructions.

Please note: Appointments and confirmation emails are non‑transferable. Additionally, possession of a card from the previous year does not guarantee eligibility for current-year benefits. All participants are required to register annually.

If appointments are full, please check back regularly. Distribution appointment times will be released on a rolling basis through July 2026. New locations and availability will be posted as they become open for booking.

 

Home-delivered meals

This program delivers nutritious meals to individuals who are homebound and unable to shop for or prepare their own meals. These meals are prepared and delivered by community-based organizations in our non-profit network.

Home-delivered groceries

This program delivers food pantry groceries each week to low income older adults and adults with disabilities who have difficulty transporting groceries home due to limited mobility.  The supplemental groceries are delivered for free by the SF-Marin Food Bank or one of their partner organizations.

Grocery bags for pick up

Our partnership with the SF-Marin Food Bank provides fresh produce and other nutritious ingredients at dozens of free food pantries across the City.

CHAMPSS

Choosing Healthy Appetizing Meal Plan Solutions for Seniors (CHAMPSS) offers adults who are 60 years of age and older the opportunity to eat a healthy meal at designated restaurants. Our current restaurant partners are SoHoMei, Venus Café and Crazy Pepper. There is a suggested contribution of $5.00 per meal.

CalFresh food assistance

CalFresh provides low-income individuals and households with a special debit card to purchase food at grocery stores, farmers' markets, and other food outlets.
