RESIDENTIAL COUNSELOR FT

This nonprofit organization supports young people in moving beyond homelessness. Since 1984, it has served more than 80,000 young adults in San Francisco through a continuum of healthcare, housing, employment, and education services. It is the largest nonprofit provider for young people experiencing homelessness in the city. We are seeking Residential Counselors to support clients in our housing programs and help them stay on track with their goals. Residential Counselors provide guidance and counseling to clients individually and in group settings. Positions are available at multiple locations throughout San Francisco, including the Tenderloin, as well as one site in Berkeley. A variety of shifts are available; details are listed in the schedule section.

DUTIES:

• Work with and support low-income/homeless young adults (ages 18-25) in residential settings.
• Inspire and support clients to reach their goals.
• Oversee and maintain joy and safety in community spaces.
• Assist clients in understanding and overcoming social and emotional challenges.
• Collecting, organizing, and analyzing information about individuals through records, tests, interviews, and professional sources.
• Collect and share occupational, educational, and economic information to aid clients in making and carrying out objectives.
• Engage in research and follow-up activities to evaluate counseling techniques.
• In conjunction with internal resources, teach domestic and practical skills or hold group meetings.
• Collaborate with other staff members to ensure the continuum of services for the clients.
• Maintain community resources including foodstuffs (communal dinners), laundry, etc.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• 6 months experience (volunteer or paid) working with at risk TAY (ages 18-25) populations or similar.
• Basic computer skills for data entry, email, outlook calendar management.
• Passionate about ending youth homelessness.
• You embody our values and core strategies: Client-Centered, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, Trauma-Informed Care, Restorative Practices, Harm Reduction, Non-Violent Crisis Intervention, Motivational Interviewing
• You have experience noticing symptoms of use and abuse, recovery, and treatment philosophies.
• Self-starter and team player, personable, reliable, and dependable.
• You work best in a fully in-person working environment (Remote work is NOT possible for this position).
• You are willing to work holidays occasionally.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Experience working in shelter, transitional, and/or permanent supportive housing programs.
• Degree in public health/social services-related field.

Schedules are:

Tuesday - Saturday OR

Sunday - Thursday

SWING: 4:00 PM to 12:00 AM

OVERNIGHT: 12:00 AM to 8:00AM (Pay differential of +$1 per hour)
