Applying for CalFresh

Ways to apply

To keep you safe, our Service Centers offer limited on-site support during the City’s latest stay-at-home order. We are still available to meet your essential service needs without interruption by phone and online.

  • By phone at (415) 558-4700 to get your application started or for more information. You can also schedule an appointment for application assistance at 2EnrollMeSF.org.

  • By fax at (415) 355-2300

  • By mail at City and County of San Francisco, Department of Human Services, P.O. Box 7988, San Francisco, CA 94120-7988

Required documents: Whether applying online or in person, you'll need to provide documentation of your income, residency, and identity. View the types of verification.

Next steps after applying

  • Interviews/signatures: In-person interview and a written signature may be waived on your application through the end of the federal health emergency . We will complete the process by phone, mail, or electronic means whenever possible.
  • Wait for determination: You will receive an approval or denial of your application within 30 days.
  • Need temporary food relief? You can request Expedited Services within three days if you're experiencing extremely low income, lack of resources, or extremely high housing expenses.  
  • Obtain your EBT card: You should receive your card by mail in one week. The PIN may arrive in a separate envelope. Card pick-up is only available for those without access to a stable mail or phone situation.
  • Disagree with a determination? You can appeal your denial or benefit amount by calling (800) 952-5253, or by mailing the Appeals Unit, P.O. Box 7988, San Francisco CA 94120.
