CalWORKs provides qualifying families and expectant mothers with a variety of services, such as benefits and housing assistance and employment services.

Changes to CalWORKs during COVID-19 related to:

Renewals: Your CalWORKs and CalFresh Benefits will continue with no changes for March, April, May, and June 2020. This means that if your semiannual report form (SAR 7) or annual renewal was due in March, April, or May 2020, you do not have to turn it in or complete your interview. If you have turned in your March SAR 7 or renewal paperwork already, it will not be processed, and nothing will change. If your SAR 7 or renewal paperwork included information that would make your benefits go up, please call us at (415) 557-5100 to report this information over the phone.

CalFresh emergency benefits will be automatically added to your EBT card that will increase your CalFresh benefit to the maximum amount allowed for your household size. All CalFresh households not already at the maximum allowable benefit amount based on household size are eligible to receive these emergency benefits. View maximum benefits: English | Español

  • March emergency benefits will be added to your EBT card around April 12, 2020.
  • April emergency benefits will be added to your EBT card around May 10, 2020.

CalWORKs provides temporary assistance and support to families with (or expecting) children. Benefits include cash assistance, food, child care, and health care coverage. CalWORKs also provides employment, education assistance, and other necessary services that will provide families with the resources they need to support their families, even after leaving the program.

If you are an adult with dependent children or a teenager or adult who is pregnant, you may be eligible for CalWORKs. Eligibility for benefits depends on a number of factors, including family size, income, property, and special needs. Please refer to our CalWORKs Fact Sheet for more information on specific eligibility requirements.

Immigrants and their families may also be eligible for services. Visit our Public Benefits for Immigrants page for information and frequently asked questions related to CalWORKs and our other benefit programs.
