Using CalFresh

Learn how and where to use your CalFresh benefits to buy food and groceries.

How to use your CalFresh EBT card

In San Francisco, CalFresh benefits are distributed via the Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) cards, also known as the Golden State Advantage card. The EBT card is used like a debit card with a four-digit PIN and it offers privacy when making purchases.

  • Check your EBT card balance: View your balance and purchase history on your smartphone by downloading the Fresh EBT app or by calling 1-877-328-9677.
  • Report a lost card: Call CalFresh customer service immediately at (415) 558-4700.
  • Protect your card against scams: Always keep your PIN and EBT card number safe and secret. If you receive a text or phone call asking for card or PIN numbers, do not provide your information. Contact us immediately using the customer service numbers provided by HSA, or printed on the back of your card.
